The inestimable Albert Einstein observed, “A human being is part of the whole called by us “universe.”…We experience ourselves…as something separate from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affections for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
This October full moon marks the initiation of the Goodness To Go blog. Many thanks for giving yourself time to embark on this journey of self-inquiry as we explore themes woven throughout my recently published Handbook for Humanitarians. You may want to start a new journal or computer file to record your contemplations and any questions that arise. Consider reflecting on the task that Einstein gives us: How could you widen your circle of compassion? How could you free yourself from the prison of dualism that makes you believe that you’re separate from the whole called universe?
